Saltdean is benefiting from major investment with big projects underway and more on the horizon, made possible through the positive work of our Conservative team of Councillors at Brighton & Hove City Council.
Bounded by farmland and the South Downs National Park boasts one of the jewels in the crown of Brighton & Hove’s heritage assets, the art deco Saltdean Lido, which is about to undergo a fantastic community-focused restoration.
At the City Budget last year our Conservative Councillors delivered the £1.135 million to get this restoration underway. Now, under the excellent work of Derek Leaver the Chair of the Saltdean Lido CIC, the scaffolding is up and the Lido is on its way to being transformed into a true community asset.
The restoration will open up new facilities and opportunities for the residents of Saltdean, including a water sports zone; spacious ballroom; coffee lounge and café; refurbished library; heritage learning zone; exercise studio; and community meeting rooms, with consultation on the new gym currently underway.
Across the road at Saltdean Oval, playground equipment has been upgraded and at Saltdean Beach a new disability ramp is set to be installed by the summer, both a result of our Conservative Councillors spearheading Budget proposals and then delivering these projects through the Council. With our focus on seafront heritage, we also ensured £250,000 in the Budget for the restoration of seafront railings and building new beach huts and chalets.
Our Conservative Candidate for the upcoming Rottingdean Coastal by-election Lynda Hyde is determined to see further improvements and is calling for a strategic plan for the Undercliff Walk.
Community groups would like to see new infrastructure such as bins, signage, beach huts, beach defibrillators and chalets; upgraded and accessible toilets and changing facilities, including a changing places facility at Saltdean. Lynda’s strategic plan will put in place practical action to get this done, including requiring the council to establish a list of needed works and a financial plan to roll these out.
The Conservatives, with our united team, clear plan and focus on local issues, are delivering results for residents. Lynda Hyde would be a strong addition and would deliver even more for Saltdean and the Rottingdean Coastal ward.
