The Conservative amendment on Page 388 DM18 refers to the principles of the circular economy and we are purely seeking to have a fully integrated approach to ensure that all the potential effects of a development are recognised and taken into consideration. For example sustainability, economic benefits and integration within the immediate community which will have an effect not only in the short term but also the long term and thus have the potential for further encouragement of inward investment within our City.
Everybody will be aware that developments effect not only the local neighbourhood but also the City was well. These effects do not have to the physical can be something as intangible as say a view which can have a major effect on residents feeling of wellbeing. This amendment seeks to identify and thus protect the many outstanding visual benefits that residents enjoy and which are so important in the fabric of our City.
Our amendment DM25 is proposed as a specific and dovetails in to the previous amendment. Telephone masts have in the past been the subject of substantial upset to residents and this amendment seeks to ensure that the erection of masts will not have an undue adverse effect particularly in the vicinity of a school or college.
Just as Portslade, Hove and Brighton form the City of which we are so proud then local neighbourhoods such as Portslade Old Village, Poets Corner , Queens Park and Rottingdean contribute to the overall fabric of our City. Whilst however some areas of the City enjoy good signage there are other areas where local signage is at best poor or none at all. Every neighbourhood has features and attractions which if signposted would be beneficial to both residents and visitors alike. Encouraging visitors could of course have a beneficial effect financially and thus the local economy. I therefore fully support DM24 and would hope that everybody would support the amendment.
