- Changes to the Published Admission Number for Saltdean Primary School will not proceed following Council U-Turn.
- Rottingdean Coastal Councillors are pleased that families will continue to have their choice of a local school.
Rottingdean Coastal Conservative Councillors Mary Mears and Joe Miller have welcomed the news that Saltdean Primary School will now remain as a three-form entry school following a U-turn from the council.
Brighton and Hove City Council had planned to reduce Saltdean Primary School’s entry admission number from 90 to 60 pupils, with the school set to lose a form of entry from 2023 onwards.
However following the consultation period and submissions being made, the proposed changes have now been dropped.
Rottingdean Coastal Ward’s Conservative Councillors Mary Mears and Joe Miller said that the decision meant that residents in the east of the city would continue to be guaranteed access to a local primary school place.
“We are delighted to hear the council has taken a U-turn on the reduction of school places to outlaying Primary Schools in the City including Saltdean Primary” Cllr Mears and Cllr Miller said.
“This will come as a great relief to local parents, who will not now have to travel to take their children to school outside of Saltdean.
“The wider community in Saltdean had raised concerns on this, including the Saltdean Residents Association.
“We wish Saltdean Primary School every success going forward, as the pressure on budgets and teacher numbers has now been rescinded”.
