Conservative Group Leader Steve Bell has congratulated Brighton & Hove born couple Peter and Margaret Field after Sir Peter received a knighthood in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.
Brighton-born Peter Field, who has been the Queen’s representative for Sussex since 2008, was recognised with the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO), an award which is in the personal gift of the monarch.
Hove-born Margaret Field becomes Lady Field.
Cllr Steve Bell CBE said that the honour, which is in the personal gift of the Queen, was fitting recognition for a Brighton & Hove couple that has contributed so much to the City.
“Sir Peter and Lady Margaret have a great love for Brighton & Hove and both have made a great contribution to the City through patronage of over 40 charities” Cllr Bell said.
“I was absolutely delighted when I heard the news especially at this time when the City faces so much negative news.
“It is good to have some good news for a local down to earth couple who have given so much to so many over many years.
“These personal awards are seldom awarded by Her Majesty which just goes to highlight the many good works and achievements they have been able to make have not gone unnoticed” he said.
